#DINOSAUR ISLAND 1994 MOVIE#
Who can be blamed? Roger Corman, who wanted to cash in on Jurassic Park and hired Ray and Wynorski, who claimed in the book Crab Monsters, Teenage Cavemen and Candy Stripe Nurses - Roger Corman: King of the B Movie that this is more a cavegirl movie than a dinosaur flick. And who is he? Russ Hagen from The Sidehackers. Who can make sense of all of this? Captain Jason Briggs.
Instead of the jungle, this tribe really is running part of David Carradine's ranch and are battling footage taken from Carnosaur, here called the Great One. Well, at least he has Fred Olen Ray along for this one, all about five pilots crashing in the jungle and coming up against not only dinosaurs, but a tribe of Amazonian women who include Michelle Bauer (Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-O-Rama, Nightmare Sisters), Becky LeBeau (Joysticks), Deborah Dutch (Vice Academy 6) and Toni Naples (Deathstalker II). It seems like I set out to do a week about societies where women rule and I end up watching Jim Wynorski movies. Actually, I'm not going to get away with that, so let's talk about this movie. A total kitschy blast.ĭinosaur Island has a great poster and let's leave it at that. Competent cinematography by the furiously prolific Gary Graver, too. Chuck Cirino's spirited score hits the stirring spot. The cheesy puppet dinosaurs possess a certain loveably rinky-dink charm. The rest of the enthusiastic cast have a ball with the goofy material: Richard Gabai as smartaleck John Skeemer, Peter Spellos as bumbling butterball Turbo, Tom Shell as the nerdy Wayne, and Steve Barkett as the uptight Sergeant Healey. This film further benefits from a bevy of beautiful babes: Toni Naples as the formidable Queen Morganna, Antonia Dorian as the feisty April, Griffin Drew as the perky April, Michelle Bauer as the sweet June, Nikki Fritz as a blue-painted high priestess, Becky LaBeau as an ill-fated virgin sacrifice, and Deborah Dutch as a background cave girl. Directors Jim Wynorski and Fred Olen Ray keep the enjoyably inane story zipping along at a brisk pace, maintain a likeable lighthearted tone throughout, get loads of laughs from the amusing sense of blithely campy humor, and deliver a pleasing plenitude of tasty bare female flesh. Gruff army captain Jason Briggs (Ross Hagen in top growly form) and his squad of misfit soldiers find themselves stranded on a remote island that's populated by foxy cave women and terrorized by a huge man-eating Tyrannosaurus rex. DINOSAUR ISLAND is certainly a cheap and poorly shot little thing but there's enough nudity and camp to make it worth viewing for those who enjoy this sort of thing. The cast includes some familiar faces like cult favorite Michelle Bauer and Peter Spellos (SORORITY HOUSE MASSACRE 2) but everyone fits their roles just fine. There are several times where the girls are "stabbing" the dinosaurs but not coming close to actually hitting them as the timing of the real stuff and the CGI are off to the point where you can't help but laugh. Quite often the girls will be using their spears against the dinosaurs and yet you can tell that they didn't know what they were looking at during filming. The CGI dinosaurs in this movie are perhaps the worst you'll ever see and I'm sure even Edward D.
#DINOSAUR ISLAND 1994 HOW TO#
This here leads to a lot of jokes where the men all try to get something from them while at the same time trying to figure out how to kill the dinosaurs.
The majority of the running time has nothing going on except for the beautiful women running around jiggling as they become curious about things like kissing and sex. I'm really not sure why two directors were needed but they deliver pretty much what you'd expect in a film like this. DINOSAUR ISLAND is obviously a film that wasn't meant to be taken serious as everything here is pretty cheap from start to finish. They're incorrect because there's a bunch of big breasted and beautiful women but the only downside is that there's also dinosaurs who love to eat people. A group of Army guys have their plane crash into the ocean but thankfully they wash up on shore of an island that they think is deserted. Dinosaur Island (1994) ** (out of 4) "B" movie kings Fred Olen Ray and Jim Wynorski co-directed this silly softcore flick that has enough nudity and camp for two movies.
